Smile Makeovers Q & A

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover is a comprehensive, customized treatment that includes specific cosmetic dentistry procedures designed to enhance the hard and soft tissues of your mouth. The goal is to maximize your aesthetic potential and give you the smile that best suits your personality. A smile makeover takes virtually every facet of your smile into consideration, including the color, width, length, shape, and alignment of your teeth, the appearance of your gum tissue, the shape and width of your lips, and the overall appearance of your face, including your skin tone and hair color. Although smile makeovers are undertaken for a variety of reasons, the ultimate goal of every procedure is to restore a beautiful smile.

What are some common smile makeover procedures?

The procedures included in a smile makeover treatment plan are chosen based on the needs and aesthetic goals of the individual patient. Although your dentist at Southern Connecticut Dental Group can help you address virtually any aspect of your smile to create the desired overall effect, some of the most commonly performed procedures include:

Bonding: Using a tooth-colored resin material to change tooth color, this quick in-office procedure is most useful in repairing chipped teeth. It can also be used to close gaps, change tooth length, address uneven edges, and fix other minor imperfections.

Veneers: Also known as laminates, dental veneers are ultra-thin, porcelain or composite resin shells designed to cover the front side of your teeth. They can be used to instantly whiten your teeth, restore tooth structure, hide flaws, and lengthen teeth.

Teeth whitening: A simple but highly effective cosmetic service, in-office teeth whitening treatments give patients the bright, vibrant smile they want. Just one treatment can make your teeth several times brighter in very little time. Although whitening works on natural teeth, it won’t work on teeth that have been restored with bonding, crowns, or bridges.

Invisalign® clear braces: If moving teeth to reduce crowding or close gaps will help you get the smile you want, state-of-the-art orthodontics can help. The Invisalign system uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to straighten your teeth over time. The aligners correct mild to moderate crowding or spacing issues efficiently and effectively.

What can I expect?

During your initial consultation with the team at Southern Connecticut Dental Group, you’ll have a comprehensive exam, discuss the aspects of your smile you’d like to improve, and take a photo of your current smile for future comparison. Based on the team’s assessment of your current oral health and overall aesthetic goals, they’ll be able to provide details on specific procedures, address any concerns you may have, help you choose the approach that will best meet your needs, and let you know what kind of results you should expect.
